I met a man old as the Sun,
withs word as wise and bright as one.
He told me to take a walk with him.
And, so I left with skeptic steps,
bating my thoughts and cynic's breaths,
I didn't know quite what to expect.
But when I paused, that's when he spoke,
"Your heart's been broken, that's no joke.
But hear me out, then just wait and see."
So I humored him and listened well.
Words from his lips so cautious fell,
"There is a girl you'll love before you leave.

Don't you go telling everyone that you're in love!
Well, don't you know that's the best way to get caught?

My heart, it jumped into my throat.
I didn't know how he could know
something that he had never seen.
He carried on for not too long,
my eyes grew wide, I sang this song,
and returned to the place I was before
where I met a girl within her eyes
just as the old man prophesized.
My anxious anchor sank into my knees.
So, I sat down to catch my breath
and stop the shaking in my legs.
She came and knelt, and whispered in my ear,

"Don't you go telling everyone that I'm your love!
Don't you know I heard every word on your walk?"

She said, "You can't take his advice
and be happy until you die.
That may be a life, but it is not life to me.
First, you're born and then you're gone,
a second chance may never come.
I can't love someone afraid of loving me."
And, as she got up to walk away,
I raised to my voice so I could say,
"You heard the old man right, but I'm not him.
He told me not to tell anyone,
but I'm telling everyone
from my soapbox sleeve sewn of my fatal flaws.
