Caveat Cultor

from Smile, It's Not That Bad. by Leftmore

lyrics

Oh, the apple of his eye, it grew so centered and so sweet,
and now he's preaching like a blind man, "I CAN SEE, OH, I CAN SEE!"
while all the color drains through his body through his feet
like the fire in the Earth is out 'cuz the ocean sprung a leak.

Now, he tells her what she wants to hear, gives her everything she needs,
so she's talking like a beggar and pulling on his sleeve.
She aches for his touch. Now he's the needle to her heat,
but she won't get her sickness off while she's sleeping in the streets.

So, be careful what your eyes grow and beware of what you see.
The ripples on the water aren't the same things underneath.
So, be wise to all your seeds sown and let them question your beliefs.
Even if the water's shallow, the current can run deep. Whoa-oh-oh-oh.

Well, that apple he's been bobbing for is just out of reach,
so he's screaming through the water: I CAN'T BREATHE, OH, I CAN'T BREATHE."
while all the color drains from his body and moves to where he bleeds
like that first time you fall in love or the first scratch on your knee.

So he's just staring at the surface now and praying he'll be freed.
She's still tugging like an anchor and pulling on his sleeve.
She whispers reassurances, asks, "Babe, don't you love me?
What did you expect that I'd become once you cast me upon this sea?"

So, be careful what your eyes grow and beware of what you see.
The ripples on the water aren't the same things underneath.
So, be wise to all your seeds sown and question your beliefs.
Even if the water's shallow, the current can run deep. Whoa-oh-oh-oh. (x2)

Matt rejoined with Chris Doxtator on drums and Geoff Brent on bass guitar. The lineup now vacillates between the solo, duo, and quartet conditionally based on time-space. ... more
