Apple Tree

lyrics

There's a root being dug up
to make way for the others.
It's grown too thick, it's far too strong,
so it's choking one side out.
And there are leaves that are dying
on the ground, in a pile.
They've fallen sick. They don't have long,
so they're changing colors on the lawn.

But don't go asking about all these scars,
I've got so much skin to live in!
And, yes, I know the axe, the hand, that took her love from me,
but that won't bring her back., my Apple Tree.

There's a branch being tarred
where the lightning came for my heart.
It came in quick and then was gone,
so now my love is bubbling its way out.
And there's a knot in my back
where the lovebird makes its nest
who's far too weak to make its song
so it's waiting silently on the dawn.

But don't go asking about all these scars
I've got so much skin left to live in.
And, yes, I know the axe, the hand that took her love from me,
but that won't change a thing, my Apple Tree.

Though she's been ground down to dirt,
I trust that I'm still in her heart
and that she'll come back to me.
The rain will bring her back to life.
I know her love still beats in those seeds.

Oh, my love, come back to me.
Come back to me.

Matt rejoined with Chris Doxtator on drums and Geoff Brent on bass guitar. The lineup now vacillates between the solo, duo, and quartet conditionally based on time-space. ... more
